Post-16 Transport
It is the responsibility of guardians to apply for post-16 transport assistance.
School recommends you do this as early as possible.
Key Information on Post-16 Transport for SEN Pupils with EHCPs
Annual Application Required
- Post-16 SEN pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) must apply for transport each year.
- Additional Support
Extra assistance is not automatically provided. Kent County Council (KCC) will review requests through an appeal process, considering factors such as:- Distance and accessibility
- Medical and mobility needs
- Financial hardship
- Religious or belief preferences
- KCC 16+ Travel Saver Card
Available to most pupils aged 16–18. Families on low incomes may qualify for a reduced rate.
- Personal Transport Budget (PTB)
Pupils will now receive a PTB instead of arranged transport. This budget can be used for:- Fuel costs
- Bus or train fares
- Taxi fares
- Childcare for siblings while transporting the pupil
If there is a shortfall, a bursary may be available. Apply to the post-16 provider first.

The amount depends on the distance between home and college. - Payment Schedule
Payments are made on the 15th of each month for 11 months. - Impact on Benefits
Receiving a PTB will not affect other benefits.
